ITALY: Eight years after closing its factory in Villasanta, Carrier has announced a return to the municipality with the construction of a $16m air conditioning and heating R&D Centre.
In 2014, Carrier announced the closure of the former Delchi air conditioning factory, which it had acquired in 1983, transferring production to the Czech Republic. Now the company is set to return with a new Centre of Excellence focused on the development of heat pumps, hydrogen boilers and IoT-enabled systems.
The new facility in Villasanta will comprise 3,000m2 of laboratories and offices and involve the relocation of R&D centre staff in Lecco and Pescara by the end of 2023.
“The investment in a Center of Excellence for the research and development of sustainable and efficient heating systems allows us to offer an even broader value proposition to our customers in the residential and light commercial sectors in Europe,” said Francois Audo, vice president and managing director Carrier RLC Europe and Riello.
